According to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the British government, in the bid to reaffirm Britain as “open to the brightest and best from across the globe” despite the ongoing Brexit plans, has issued a new policy that allows international students in the UK work after their graduation. By virtue of the new policy, UK graduates will be able to remain and work or find employment for the period of two years -as against the former 4 months restriction policy- after they graduate from school.

This policy comes as an end to that of ex-Prime Minister Theresa May, whose controversial immigration policies critics argued would discourage international students from applying to British institutions and in turn lead to the loss of bright students who could contribute to the UK after their education.

The policy also stipulates that there will be no restrictions on the number of students who can apply to the UK, as all applicants with student visa will be allowed to apply to switch to a skilled worker visa should they require such adjustments for a job which meets the relevant criteria. The Guardian UK added that this move by the British Government would serve to increase the possibility of international students to get lasting jobs after pursuing an education in the UK.

The new post-study work visa will be in effect for students starting courses at undergraduate level or above in 2020, and is open to graduates in any subject and for jobs in any sector within the country.
